Do you want to spruce up your appearance? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Our Sugar Land, TX, dentists Drs. Stephen & Mark Lukin are experts in cosmetic dentistry, and we can work with you to craft and create your dream smile using a wide range of techniques and treatments. If you’re only looking to make small changes to your smile, then dental bonding might be for you.

What is dental bonding?

Bonding is one of the simplest, least invasive and most inexpensive cosmetic dentistry treatments we offer our patients here in Sugar Land, TX. While bonding isn’t used to address more serious esthetic issues, this conservative treatment can improve the shape, size or color of a tooth.

Bonding involves applying a tooth-colored resin over these imperfections, whether it’s a small internal stain, a small gap between your teeth or a chip. Bonding can also help to reshape slightly worn teeth.

How does bonding work?

Bonding is completely non-invasive, which means that it doesn’t require any anesthesia. It’s completely quick and painless. In fact, you may even wish to wait until your upcoming dental cleaning to also get your bonding treatment. It usually doesn’t take more than 30 minutes per tooth.

Once your teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, we will apply this special liquid over the tooth. This liquid roughens the surface of the tooth so that when we apply the resin it sticks. From there, the liquid is rinsed off and the tooth is dried. Then we choose the appropriate shade of resin that matches your tooth before applying it.

The resin that we use is the same resin that is used to fill cavities. Except, in this case, we are merely using it to correct cosmetic imperfections, so we won’t need to numb the area. Once the resin shade is chosen, we will apply the material directly to the tooth.

Now, this resin is very malleable (think, putty-like), which makes it easy for us to sculpt, shape and trim it. Once the resin is perfectly shaped, we will harden the resin directly to the tooth with a dental laser.
